Something about Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate

Sodium laureth sulfate, or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), is an anionic detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). SLES is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. SLES, SLS, ALS and sodium pareth sulfate are surfactants that are used in many cosmetic products for their cleansing and emulsifying properties. They behave similarly to soap.

Its chemical formula is CH3(CH2)10CH2(OCH2CH2)nOSO3Na. Sometimes the number represented by n is specified in the name, for example laureth-2 sulfate. The product is heterogeneous in the number of ethoxyl groups, where n is the mean. It is common for commercial products for n=3. SLES is prepared by ethoxylation of dodecyl alcohol. The resulting ethoxylate is converted to a half ester of sulfuric acid, which is neutralized by conversion to the sodium salt.The related surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate (also known as sodium dodecyl sulfate or SDS) is produced similarly, but without the ethoxylation step. Something about Potassium Sodium Tartrate

Properties

Potassium sodium tartrate is a colorless, blue, white salt crystallization orthorhombic system. It is slightly soluble in alcohol, but more completely soluble in water. It has a specific gravity is about 1.79, melting point is 75 ℃, with physiological saline, the taste of cool. As a food additive, its E number is E337.

Potassium sodium tartrate has been used in medicine as a laxative. It is also used in the process of the silver mirror. This is a Fehling solution, the original solution used in the determination of reducing sugar in the composition.

In organic synthesis, it is used in water workups, broke the emulsions, especially for use based on aluminum hydride reagents.

In the protein crystallography, it is a common form of precipitant and biuret reagent which is one of the ingredients; it is used to measure the protein concentration.
