MEDIA RELEASE11 May 2007Sustainability at theheart of winning business Rosetta Stone software proposalA proposed investmentcompany with an environmental conscience has been judged thewinner of the 2007 Global Enterprise Experience, abusiness-concept competition based at Victoria Universitythat unites 650 students from 34 countries.The Mayor ofWellington, Kerry Prendergast, today congratulated thewinning team of six students from New Zealand, Germany,Rwanda, and Macau (Peoples Republic of China) at anawards ceremony.Led by Victoria University students fromthe School of Marketing and International Business, theinternational teams had three weeks to design and jointlywrite a business proposal using web-based communicationtechnology. This years theme required a venture thatfosters environmental sustainability and draws on thetalents and opportunities in the team members'countries.Competition director Deb Gilbertson says thecompetition has grown rapidly since it was established in2004 by the University and Te Kaihau Ltd, a group ofWellington-based innovation and managementconsultants. Each year the number of entries doubles,and the quality and creativity of the students proposalsis increasingly impressive. The competition showcases youngNew Zealanders ability to take a lead in developingglobal partnerships,Rosetta Stone cheap, she says. Head of VictoriasSchool Rosetta Stone Italian of Marketing & International Business, AssociateProfessor Val Lindsay, says the competition is a valuableopportunity for students to put their business skills topractice, and to further develop skills in leadership andcommunication technology. This is a real-lifeopportunity for our students to apply their learning indeveloping international business while dealing with all thecomplexities of languages, cultures, time zones, religions,world views and levels of wealth, Dr Lindsay says. Theteams were judged by Dion Mortensen (Movac Ltd), KerryPrendergast, Steph Smith (Creative Manufacturing Cluster),Tim Gibson (New Zealand Trade and Enterprise) and FulviaFarinelli (United Nations Conference on Trade andDevelopment, Geneva).The winning team are: Marit Borrmann(Germany), Patient Irumva (Rwanda), Chloe Dallaway (NewZealand), Angela Delfina Mateus (Macau PR China) KatharinaVon Kracht (Germany) and Ka Leng Ho (Macau PR China). Eachmember receives $1000. Their winning business concept -Bios Investments -is an asset management company thatstrategically invests in companies that offer both immediatefinancial returns and environmentally sustainable returnsfor future generations. In addition,Cheap Rosetta Stone, rather than simplyreturning divid to Rosetta Stone Japanese investors, a 2 per cent portion willbe devoted to implementing a green marketing campaign.The Global Enterprise Experience is sponsored by MovacLtd andHSBC.
